Baleal is located on Portugal’s stunning west coast, about 5 kilometers north of the well-known fishing town of Peniche and roughly 90 kilometers from the capital city of Lisbon. What makes this place and its landscape so unique is that it’s actually a small peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean. With dramatic cliffs meeting golden beaches and the crashing waves of the sea, simply going for a walk in the area becomes a breathtaking experience in itself.
Thanks to its coastal location, Baleal enjoys a mild and stable climate throughout the year. In summer, daytime temperatures typically range between 20°C and 28°C, offering warm and sunny days with pleasantly cooler nights. Even in winter, it rarely drops below 14°C in the shade, and the area sees around 6–7 hours of sunshine per day – making it a great year-round destination.
Despite being a small village, Baleal has over 20 cafés and restaurants. You’ll find everything from laid-back local spots where you can enjoy a Galão (the Portuguese version of a latte) and a freshly baked pastel de nata, to more modern cafés with Wi-Fi – perfect if you need to get some work or studying done during your stay.
The area is also home to yoga studios and different types of fitness classes, as well as several small shops and local boutiques. And if you’re someone who loves being out in nature, you’re in for a treat. You can take long walks along the clifftops or down by the beach, with incredible views stretching out in every direction.
