A Family Adventure: Are you ready?

By DBP Adventures

Are you and your family searching for your next family holiday but feeling eager to try something new, something that will leave you with lasting memories to cherish? Then this is for you.

Whether you dream of standing on a surfboard for the first time, carving down snowy slopes, or exploring breathtaking landscapes on a mountain bike, there’s an family adventure out there that’s perfect for you and your family.

In this article, we’ll share our best tips, tricks, and some inspiration from other families who have tried out this type of travel.

What Does It Actually Mean to go on a Family Adventure?

What constitutes an adventure naturally varies from family to family. It often depends on what you’ve accustomed to and maybe also the types of trips you enjoyed before having children. However, the essence of an adventure isn’t defined by these factors – it’s about creating memories as a family that you’ll treasure for years to come.

We firmly believe that family bonds grow stronger when you face challenges together, get your heart rates up a little, and date to try out new things as a team. By leaving everyday routine behind, stepping away from screens that often dominate our attention, and instead dedicating time to spend in nature, you create opportunities to truly be present with each other.

This shift away from daily distractions allows families to focus on shared experiences, and we’ve seen just how much this is valued by those who embark on their own family adventures. These moments of connection, adventure, and presence are what make these trips unforgettable.

Planning and Preparing for Your Trip

As with any vacation, a bit of planning is required – which is why we’re happy to share our best tips to make everything go as smoothly as possible. However, we also want to emphasize that it doesn’t have to be complicated!

Planning your family adventure and everything it means from start to finish can easily feel overwhelming, and unfortunately, that’s when the planning often stops. But instead of stressing over every detail, consider booking a trip that’s already largely planned for you, with the flexibility to customize it to fit your family’s needs and preferences.

This  time-saving approach is invaluable. At DBP Adventures, we have over 10 years of experience creating trips for adventure-loving families, and we’ve gathered everything in one place to make it as easy as possible for you.

Here are a few other tips from us:

Where to Go?

Deciding on a destination will depend on your family’s hobbies and what you’re interested in learning, or trying for the first time. For some, the sun and the sea are the main attractions, while others may prefer spending time in the snow or in the mountains.

At DBP Adventures, we offer ski trips, surf trips, and mountain bike tours, and we’ve found that all of them are appreciated by families, whether they’re embarking on their first adventure or are already experienced in this type of vacation.

Packing and Equipment

What you pack with you will depend on the chosen destination. When traveling with us, we always send out a “pre-trip checklist” with packing suggestions. Of course, we’re also always just an email or phone call away to answer any questions you may have along the way.

Activities We Recommend for Families

Surfing: Spending time by the sea is not only healthy (yes, studies show this!), but it’s also incredibly fun and educational.

A family surf trip works for all ages, whether someone has surfed before or is a complete beginner. The surf instructors will tailor the lessons to suit your skill level. At some of the camps there are also child-friendly activities for those who might be a little too young to start surfing.

Skiing and Snowboarding: Getting your kids onto skis for the first time can be tricky, which is why ski lessons are often a good idea. This way, the whole family can enjoy skiing or snowboarding at their own level.

If anyone in the family enjoys off-piste skiing, we can recommend our trip to Italy, where everything is planned to ensure the entire family gets the most out of the time on the vacation.

Mountain Biking: Imagine lush green terrain with views you’ll never forget – and experiencing it with your family by your side! That’s what we know mountain biking trips offer families every year, and the best part is that everyone can decide how much they want to ride.

Efter days of cycling, you may want to go hiking, explore the area, or just relax at your accommodation. This mix of adventure and relaxation makes for the perfect family vacation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work with kids of different ages?

This is one of the most common questions, and it’s often the reason families hesitate to go on their family adventure – concerns that the kids’ ages might be too different. But there’s really no need to worry, especially when you’re heading off on a family adventure.

There are usually a variety of activities to enjoy, even at destinations where the main focus might be something else, like surfing, skiing, or mountain biking. Get in touch with us, and we can help you find the trips that best suit you and your family’s needs.

What if not everyone wants to do the same thing?

As we mentioned above, there are often opportunities to do activities other than the one that are the main focus of the trip. Hiking, excursions, sledding, playing on the beach, husky rides, and exploring the local area are all activities that the whole family can enjoy together – and they’re also a lot of fun to do as a family.

Hear About Other Families’ Adventure Experiences

“We had an amazing family trip to Montalivet with our kids, ages 6-10. Life at the camp was super cozy and relaxed, and both kids and adults quickly made new friends, playing and socializing across generations.

As non-camping people, we were pleasantly surprised by the tipi tents, complete with shelves for clothes, chairs, tables and real beds!

The days flew by with morning and evening surf sessions, the camp’s cozy atmosphere and day trips.

A 5-star trip for sure!! We’ll definitely be back!”
