Surfers at Peniche

If you are an experienced surfer or just want to try it for the first time, then Peniche in Portugal is definitely a place you should consider visiting. Peniche is known as one of the best surfing destinations in Europe and has been attracting surfers from all over the world for decades. Therefore, at DBP Adventures we of course also have 2 surf camps in the area.

Located on the west coast of Portugal, Peniche is a peninsula surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and has some of the best surfing spots in Portugal. It is also an important fishing community and the sea around the peninsula is known for its rich fish stocks, making it a popular place for fishing too (so if you want fish on the menu, Peniche is a good place to be).

But back to surfing: Peniche has a large number of surf spots to suit all surfers. There are waves for beginners and more challenging waves for the more experienced surfers. Some of the most famous surf spots in the area include Supertubos, Baleal and Molhe Leste.

Supertubos:

Located near the town of Peniche, Supertubos is known for its tubular waves and high speeds. It is a popular surf spot among professional surfers and has also hosted an annual ASP World Tour surfing event that attracts the best surfers from around the world. The waves at Supertubos can reach a height of up to 5 meters, giving surfers the opportunity to challenge their skills and courage. It is a great destination for surfers looking for excitement and challenge.

Baleal:

A popular destination for surfers of all levels, also known for its consistent and reliable surfing. In the summer the waves are smaller and more suitable for beginners, while in the winter the waves can be very big and demanding. Because of this, Baleal is a popular location for surf camps and schools where both beginners and experienced surfers can learn and improve their skills.

Baleal also has a mild climate, which makes it a great place to surf all year round. During summer, the temperature usually reaches around 25-30 degrees, while in winter it rarely falls below 10 degrees. The water temperature is typically between 16-20 degrees, which makes it comfortable to surf without a wetsuit during the summer months.

Praia da Consolação:

Located in the town of Peniche, Praia da Consolação is a less crowded surf spot ideal for surfers looking for a more relaxed atmosphere. The waves at Praia da Consolação can reach a height of up to 2 meters and can break both left and right, making it a versatile surf spot. There are also some good facilities on the beach, including toilets, showers and restaurants, making it a great place to spend a full day at the beach.

Molhe Leste:

Molhe Leste is one of the best surf spots in the area to catch big waves that can reach a height of up to 10 meters. However, it is a more challenging and dangerous place, which is only suitable for experienced surfers. In addition to its magnificent waves, Molhe Leste is also known for its impressive nature. Here you will find some of the most challenging and exciting surfing experiences.

Praia do Medão:

Praia do Medão is located near the town of Nazaré and is known for its long waves and long surfing sessions. It’s a good choice for surfers looking for a more relaxed and less crowded spot that still offers great surfing opportunities. The waves can reach a height of up to 3 meters, and they break both to the right and to the left. Praia do Medão is also known for its beautiful sunsets and calm atmosphere, making it an ideal place to spend a relaxing day at the beach.

Peniche is therefore a destination with lots of good surf spots! You will find the good spots both north and south of the peninsula, therefore we have surf camps in both places so that all the good spots can be visited.
