Our cozy little camp is tucked away among pine trees, palm trees, and fruit orchards, giving it a calm and rural feel. Still, it’s not far from the beach – it’s about a 20-minute walk downhill, and around 40 minutes back uphill. But no need to worry: transport is arranged for all surf lessons, so you won’t need to walk unless you want to. Most families choose to rent a car for easier access to the beach and to explore the nearby villages – it’s the perfect way to make the most of the area.
We mostly surf on the rocky beaches nearby (but don’t worry – there are soft, sandy beaches nearby too, perfect for your own little day trip). Like anywhere, our lesson schedule follows the tides, so some sessions may be early in the morning or later in the afternoon.
Ericeira is a charming Portuguese fishing village that has, in recent years, become a true surf hotspot thanks to its world-class waves. It’s the perfect mix of traditional Portuguese culture and laid-back surf lifestyle, where fisherman’s cottages sit alongside cozy cafés. The area is also famous for its seafood!
Just 50 kilometers south lies Lisbon, the Portuguese capital. If you have the chance, we highly recommend spending a day or two there before or after your family surf trip.

We went on a trip with DBP in Portugal near Ericeira. We stayed at the most beautiful place surrounded by orange trees and with a view of the sea! We were there at the end of the season, which meant that there weren’t many people at the site. But it was cozy and a wonderful experience to go surfing, cycling, and practicing yoga. However, we didn’t think the food lived up to its good reputation – and the chef chose to drop the extra features – such as pizza over the fire, barbecue evening, etc. because it was just our family for the last 3-4 days.
