Kyrgyzstan – A Freeride Adventure Like No Other! We’ve had our eyes on Central Asia for a while now – a region of deep powder, dramatic mountain landscapes, and snow-capped peaks soaring up to 7,000 meters. Here, you’ll find not just epic freeride lines but also a cultural experience far from the familiar resorts of the Alps. Kyrgyzstan offers a different world entirely, where the hospitality is unmatched and the mountains seem endless.

Our choice landed on Kyrgyzstan – a country four times the size of Denmark but with only 6.5 million people. With 80% of the country covered in mountains, it’s a true paradise for freeriders. There are 12 peaks over 4,500 meters – nine of which are higher than Mont Blanc. The tallest, Pobeda (Victory Peak), rises to an impressive 7,439 meters.

This is more than just a ski trip – it’s the adventure of a lifetime. Think world-class freeriding and catskiing in untouched terrain, sleeping under starry skies, and discovering the traditions of authentic nomadic culture.

The Ski Areas in Kyrgyzstan

Our trip is split into two unforgettable parts:
First, lift-accessed sidecountry skiing in the mountains near Karakol. Second, epic catskiing in Jyrgalan – the very same area that hosts a 3-star Freeride World Tour qualifier each January.

Karakol: Karakol is the fourth largest city in Kyrgyzstan and is ideally located near several ski areas. The Karakol ski resort reaches up to 3,050 meters in elevation, offering scenic lines and open terrain. Few people visit the area, and even fewer venture off-piste, making it a hidden gem for freeriders. The dry climate ensures consistent, light powder snow.

Jyrgalan: Once a Soviet-era mining town, Jyrgalan has transformed into one of Kyrgyzstan’s premier freeride destinations. Thanks to its location near Lake Issyk-Kul, the area receives significantly more snowfall than other regions in Kyrgyzstan.

Here you’ll find nearly 10,000 hectares of terrain – from tight tree runs to steep faces with inclines over 40 degrees. Each morning, we decide where the snowcat will take us. You can expect 6–8 runs daily, with a total vertical drop of 4,000–6,000 meters per day. The snowcat reaches altitudes of up to 3,400 meters, ensuring excellent snow conditions all season.

At 2,500 meters, there’s even an ice bar where we often stop for lunch, with sweeping views across the Tien Shan foothills and, on a clear day, all the way to Kazakhstan.

Safety & Guiding: We’ve partnered with some of the most experienced and certified local guides in Kyrgyzstan, all with many years of backcountry expertise.

Off-piste skis and safety equipment are available to rent on-site.

Day 1 – Arrival day:

Arrival in Bishkek
Transfer to Karakol

Day 2-3:

Breakfast and preparation for a nice day in the mountains
Safety briefing and route planning with a certified mountain guide
Sidecountry adventure – lift-accessed off-piste skiing with the guide
Relaxation, social time, and shared dinner

One day includes a visit to a natural hot spring – perfect for tired muscles and recovery after skiing.

After the second day of skiing, we transfer to the mountain village of Jyrgalan and check in at a cozy local hotel.

Day 4-7

Breakfast and preparation for the day’s catskiing adventure
Safety briefing and route planning with your mountain guide
Catskiing – explore untouched snow in the wild Kyrgyz mountains
Relaxation, good company, and shared dinner
Optional overnight stay in a traditional yurt – a truly unique experience!
After the final day of skiing, we transfer directly to Bishkek Airport.
