The Maldives – A vacation in paradise

By DBP Adventures

The water is clear and azure blue with lots of colorful fish, where the sand is white and where you get to experience a sunset that you have never experienced before. In addition, there are fantastic surfing spots, making the Maldives the perfect vacation for us.

The Maldives is a tropical paradise

In many places around the world, you are attracted to images of white sandy beaches, blue skies, green palm trees and clear azure blue water, but most often these images are not met with the reality you encounter at the destination. However, the Maldives is one of the few places in the world that fulfills ALL promises of a vacation in paradise.

The Maldives is a tropical paradise with crystal white sandy beaches, green palm trees and an eternally clear, blue sea. The small island kingdom is located southwest of Sri Lanka and India.

The Maldives consists of 26 atolls with a total of 1190 islands, of which only 200 are inhabited. Most islands are very small and measure less than a few kilometers in length and you could easily walk around them in half an hour.

The islands are usually located in lagoons surrounded by miles of coral reefs. The Maldives really has no cities other than the capital Malé, so do not expect to shop in long lanes or a lush nightlife. The Maldives is the place to relax, enjoy the water, sunbathe, surf, snorkel and otherwise just enjoy each other’s company.

The Maldives should therefore, in all its beauty, be at the top of the “bucket list” when planning your next adventure.

The atolls

The Maldives consists of 26 atolls. An atoll is the remains of a sunken volcanic island that has been surrounded by coral reefs. The corals of the atoll sit on top of the extinct volcano. It makes the atolls look like a circle of land with a shallow lagoon in the middle.

Each atoll is formed on a sharp ridge, which protects the islands and coral reef from both wind and large waves from the Indian Ocean. This ridge helps to provide a clear turquoise blue water that has a fantastic view, which is great when you need to snorkel and experience the secrets of the coral reef.

The inside of the atolls usually offer shallow and calm water with a light breeze, while the outside offers stronger winds, therefore the Maldives is the ultimate surfing paradise as there are waves for all kinds of levels.

The maritime mecca

On many of the islands you just put on your flippers, snorkel and go out a few meters off the coast. The coral reef is right outside, just waiting to be explored.

The Maldives has one of the world’s most advanced ecosystems, where you can find 187 different kinds of corals and 1,100 different kinds of fish species and other animal species.

Therefore, below sea level, an adventurous and colorful world of beautiful corals and strange fish in all the colors of the rainbow opens up. There will also be the opportunity to see and swim with dolphins, turtles, rays and harmless sharks, and as one of the only places in the world there may be the opportunity to swim with whale sharks.

UNIQUE SURFTUR TO THE MALDIVES

As one of the only Nordic travel agencies, DBP Adventures offers the ultimate “bucketlist trip” to the Maldives, with everything a pounding surf heart desires. We give you the opportunity to experience the Maldives from a completely different perspective, namely from the deck of a 90-foot luxury boat, where you look out over the beautiful islands with a gust of wind in your hair.

The boat will sail around between the many beautiful islands in the azure sea and we find the best waves every day, so you can go out and surf – and you also get the opportunity to get sand between your toes when the boat is swinging by at one of the many beautiful islands with white sandy beaches and small fishing villages.

The cool thing about living on a large boat is that the boat provides an opportunity to sail to different surf spots, where there will be different waves that you can get out and surf on. You will therefore experience much more of what the Maldives has to offer, as you sail around between the different islands and do not get stuck on a single small island.

You can also book the trip to experience lively and playful dolphins as you sail around between the islands.

Stay on the boat

The boat contains 7 bed rooms, each with its own shower and toilet, which means that there can be 14 people on the boat. The boat also has a large sun deck where there are plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy the view. There is also a lounge at the front of the boat and a dining area at the rear of the boat. Of course there is also a bar where you can buy cocktails and beer.

The boat is driven by our captain, and our chef in the kitchen will prepare some delicious local dishes so you can really taste the fantastic flavours of the Maldives.

There will also be a couple of servers connected and of course one of Denmark’s best surfers, Emilie Uttrup, will travel with us as our private surfing guide.

Snorkeling and fishing equipment will be on board the boat and in addition the boat also has a TV, a DVD player and a music system.

Community

As mentioned, 14 guests live on this boat. Most people travel either alone or as a couple on this trip. But what they all have in common is that they are very open and positive and eager to get to know each other and get the most and best out of the trip.

You get to share waves, meals and many moments with the rest of the group. Therefore, you will quickly feel at home on the boat, while creating a family atmosphere and a community on board, and you will create many unforgettable memories together!

Flexibility is a must

In addition to our large boat, we also rent a Dinghy (a small rubber boat) and Dhoni (a fishing boat). These 2 boats provide the opportunity to sail to different surf spots or provide the opportunity to split up if one day there are some who want to snorkel and some others who want to visit an island.

This helps to provide enormous flexibility for the whole group and allows everyone to have their needs or wishes fulfilled – so that you can decide what you really want to do on the current day.

Surfing level

On this trip you do not get surfing lessons, you are guided to where the best waves are and of course the group can probably help each other if you need some help and guidance.

It is an advantage that you are easily experienced and that you have tried to surf before – not because you need to be super skilled, but because you just have to have some control over the basic techniques for surfing.

There will be many different levels in the group, so it’s cool that we have our Dinghy and Dhoni boats. This makes it possible to divide the group according to level, so that those who want to catch the difficult waves can do so and those who may want the slightly smaller waves have the opportunity to do so.

On the trip, you therefore get plenty of opportunities to develop your surfing level to new heights, because you are out surfing 2-3 times a day. You therefore have the opportunity to try many different waves in different degrees of difficulty.

Activities besides surfing

When you are not out surfing, snorkeling or on an excursion to one of the many islands, you have the opportunity to play many games or fish from the boat in the evening. There are many fun and big fish in the Maldives, so there are plenty of opportunities to get a fish on the hook. You can also sit and enjoy a beer on the sun deck while watching a fantastic sunset.

So all that needs to be done on this trip is to see the endless white sandy beaches, swim and surf in the azure waters and just enjoy the luxury that the Maldives has to offer.

Is this something for you?

If you think it sounds like an awesome experience, but surfing is not just what you like, then you do not have to worry, this trip is also perfect for you. There are plenty of opportunities to do many other activities, depending on what you want and like!

It is also possible that if you are a large group of friends or family, who want to rent the boat, we can put together a unique specially designed trip just for you!
