La Grave lies in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes region in southeastern France and has long been a mecca for skiers seeking the ultimate off-piste experience. Its dramatic mountain landscape and untouched snow draw adventure seekers from all over the world. What makes La Grave truly unique is that it remains largely untouched by traditional ski resort infrastructure – there are no marked runs, no artificial snow, and no network of lifts covering the mountain. Instead, it’s a wilderness paradise where your skills, and the expertise of our local guides, determine how you find the best lines.
Dominating the landscape is La Meije, one of the highest peaks in the region, offering terrain that ranges from narrow couloirs and steep chutes to wide open faces covered in powder. For experienced skiers, this is a dream come true – but it’s also a place that demands respect for the power of nature. La Grave isn’t for beginners; solid technical ability and mountain awareness are essential. That’s why most visitors choose to ski with a local guide who knows the terrain inside out and can navigate the area’s ever-changing snow conditions with confidence.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, there are several excellent alternatives nearby. Alpe d’Huez is just a short drive away and offers both on- and off-piste skiing within a more structured lift system. Vaujany, a charming alpine village, provides a traditional ski experience with stunning views and a variety of runs. Serre Chevalier is famous for its wide slopes and high-quality off-piste terrain, ideal for those looking for a bit of variety.
Despite its growing popularity, La Grave has managed to keep its authentic and untouched character. Here, you’ll avoid the crowds of larger resorts and experience the mountains in their purest form – where nature and skiing take center stage. The peaceful atmosphere allows you to truly disconnect and appreciate the wilderness, free from the distractions of après-ski scenes and luxury hotels.
La Grave is more than just a place to ski off-piste – it’s a destination for adventure, nature, and unforgettable moments. The combination of professional guiding, varied and challenging terrain, and a raw alpine atmosphere makes La Grave stand out from the rest. For anyone seeking an authentic ski adventure in the heart of the French Alps, this is an absolute must.
Our cozy ski lodge is centrally located in the city and can accommodate 30 guests in either double, twin or triple rooms. This is the place where all professional Scandinavian skiers come, as the place is owned by a Swedish couple.
The lodge has its restaurant and exceptionally skilled chefs who every night conjure up delicious dishes with an international twist. And not to forget a small cozy bar and pub.

Fantastic concept. Had a bit of bad luck with the amount of snow during my trip, but of course it’s not really manageable.
