Off-piste skiing in North Macedonia is for you who want the whole mountain to yourself and who are hungry for snow adventures!

It was in North Macedonia that it all started 10 years ago with DBP Adventures, when we were looking for an area where we could have the mountain to ourselves and get to put the first tracks in the snow. North Macedonia has no lift system, but instead we are transported around in a cat, which has room for 16 people.

Cat-skiing in North Macedonia is significantly cheaper than in the rest of the world and therefore most people can travel with us and have the opportunity to enjoy the fantastic nature in a huge mountain area where there are few other skiers.

We live in an area called Popova Sapka and have collaborated with the skilled Eskimo Freeride who provides local mountain guides and the safety is top class throughout the trip. At the same time, we will also have our own representatives there. We have compiled a program for the trip together with Eskimo Freeride, which you can see under the tab “programs”, so that you get the most out of your trip.

Every day we will go up in the large mountain area with the cat (max. 4 times / day). A cat can carry 16 people, and we can guarantee 2400 altitude metres, on an average per day .

In North Macedonia, the avalanche danger is generally lower than in the Alps and many other mountain ranges. This is partly due to the oval shape of the mountains and partly to the ground surface. Opposite the Alps, the surface consists mainly of grass, which better “holds” the snow, so it becomes more difficult for the snow to slide. Of course, we have a strong focus on safety and inform all our guests before going out in the mountains.

We live in a small town in the valley under very “North Macedonian conditions” – the hotel is not flashy, but it is a cultural experience like no other and the atmosphere is great. On average, our guests withdraw 60 EUR from the ATM at the airport – everything is pretty cheap here.

The mountain range we are in is called Shar Planina. It covers an area of 1,600 square kilometers, with the highest peak being 2,747 meters above sea level. The tree line is at an altitude of 1,700 meters, which gives several different conditions. At the top there is a large open area, after which gradually more trees come as you go down to the bottom. The first 1,000 meters are completely without trees. The area below the tree line offers good opportunities to ski between the trees, which is also an advantage if the weather is foggy. The advantage of this is that the trees provide a contrast so you can navigate by them.

The Shar Planina mountain range is described as old in relation to, for example, the Alps. The combination of time, weather and wind has “worn” the mountain range, it has made the mountains more oval than many other mountain ranges. This means that there are many different slopes for all levels. This means that no matter what peak you are on, you will always be able to choose whether you want a steep and challenging slope or a more flat and easier slope.

In North Macedonia, the avalanche danger is generally lower than in the Alps and many other mountain ranges. This is partly due to the oval shape of the mountains and partly to the surface. Opposite the Alps, the surface consists mainly of grass, which better “holds” the snow, so it is more difficult to slide.

Regardless of your level, Shar Planina in North Macedonia will be the right off-piste playground for you.

We live in a small town in the valley under very “North Macedonian conditions” – the hotel is not flashy, but it is a cultural experience like no other and the atmosphere is great. On average, our guests withdraw 60 EUR from the ATM at the airport – everything is pretty cheap here.
