Our top 5 mountain bike trails in Saalbach

By DBP Adventures

If you are as enthusiastic about the fantastic Austria as we are, then go with us to Saalbach on a mountain bike holiday and get the ultimate nature experience!

The Austrian mountains are not only ideal for winter skiing, but also a great place to spend summer and autumn holidays. For us, Austria is equal to green and lush valleys, absolutely spectacular beautiful mountains and rushing rivers and the Saalbach area is one of our favorites when it comes to mountain biking.

Saalbach Hinterglemm offers mountain bike trails for all levels and there is all types of terrain for all types of mountain biking. Here you can find a large number of freeride trails, epic nature singletrails and endless forest trails.

We have collected five of our favorite tracks and of course we must not forget The Big 5 Challenge that the Saalbach area offers!

# 1: Hacklberg Trail

We are very happy about Hacklbergspåret, a legendary trail with fantastic views and lots of singletrails in the valley. The Hacklberg track takes you from Schattberg in Saalbach and over to Westgipfel in Hinterglemm and is a real playground for mountain bikers. But it takes a little effort and work before you enjoy, after some demanding climbs, the extra long descent with lots of curves through the forest. A real playground for mountain bikers!

Do not miss the sunset, you will not get better than on Hacklbergleden.

Track length: 5.4 km | Ascent: 81 meters | Descent: 694 meters

# 2: Bergstadl Trail

The Bergstadl track is fantastic for Enduro drivers, freeriders and is definitely the most technical in Saalbach in our opinion. Here, only nature has shaped the track, there is nothing artificial. The track is located on the west side of Schaffberg and you will find it halfway up the Schattberg cable car at approx. 2000 meters altitude.

There are lots of small “bends” and technical challenges, but you will also find long passages that are easy to drive. We do not recommend it for beginners because the course requires some technology to get through.

Track length: 2.9 km | Ascent: 25 meters | Descent: 617 meters

# 3: Root Trail

Many people already know the famous track Wurzel, which means “root” in English. The course is approx. 1800 meters above sea level. The trail takes you many kilometers over meadows, through forests and is filled with tricky parts.

Beginners will probably see it as a slightly more uneven ride, while the experienced will have the perfect opportunity to hone their MTB skills.

The Wurzel Trail is also part of the challenge “The BIG 5”, so it is run in both directions and you have to be a little extra careful when meeting others.

Track length: 3.4 km | Ascent: 91 meters | Descent: 191 meters

# 4: Blue Line

The Blue Line track contains lots of action and is perfect for beginners who want to take their first steps in freeriding. The trail has simple steep turns, small jumps and varied terrain. Many experienced people also like this track because there are many challenges and you do not have to have your hand on the brake all the time. In addition, the view is absolutely spectacular.

Track length: 2.7 km | Slope: 2 | Descent: 430 meters

# 5: Hochalm Trail

The Hochalm trail has a fantastic view and landscape and is far away from the livelier paths and you feel closer to nature than anywhere else in the area. The course was originally made for those who want challenging heights. The start is only 500 meters up, but the trail feels like an endless downhill through a completely magical landscape. There are small challenges on the course and rivers to cross, sharp bends, easy roots and everything that makes your heart beat fast. The route ends in the valley.

Track length: 6.9 km | Rise: 0 meters | Descent: 780 meters

On our trips to Saalbach there are daily guided tours for all levels, both for XC and freeride. In addition, there are 2 times a week, the opportunity to get technical training and tips and tricks from our super-skilled instructors.

The Big Five Challenge

If you are daring and want a cool challenge, you can try “The BIG -5 Challenge” – 5 peaks, 5 views and your heart rate at the highest level! This challenge is on many mountain bike enthusiasts’ Bucket List. Here you get the opportunity to explore five mountains with 6 gondolas from Saalbach to Leogang, at Zell Am See, 5,000 meters downhill and fantastic uphills in a very varied terrain.

Our trip includes the ticket to the Big Five Challenge – twice a week you can leave. Check with us if it suits your chosen holiday!

In addition to Austria, we have also arranged mountain bike tours to France, Italy and North Macedonia:

Chamonix in France

In France we arrange trips to Chamonix which is located at the foot of Mont Blanc. Here we take a look at the huge Mont Blanc with the most beautiful panoramic views with accommodation along the mountain road. The routes can be challenging, but also accessible to both beginners and experienced.

You will experience small idyllic mountain villages, scenic areas, rock caves, legendary glaciers and not least challenging but accessible mountain bike trails. We ride E-mountain bikes, which makes the trip a little easier and you do not have to be in good shape before departure, but we recommend that you have some experience of riding a mountain bike.

E-mountain bike in North Macedonia

After many years in the beautiful mountains of North Macedonia with boards under our feet, we have now arranged an E-mountain bike holiday during the summer period. North Macedonia offers absolutely fantastic nature, which forms the framework for the perfect mountain bike conditions. We drive around the mountains of North Macedonia, visit the locals, experience the fantastic gastronomy and sleep in cozy and charming hotels around the mountain and in the valley.

On our trips we drive in Mavrovo National Park, Galicica National Park, Mount Jablanca and Mount Vodno. E-mountain biking in North Macedonia is for you who love scenic experiences and want the mountain yourself.

Finale Ligure, Italy

Back in the 80’s, Finale Ligure was known as a climbing mecca, today according to Red Bull it is in the top 5 of the world’s best mountain bike destinations and then it is one of the few places in the world where the MTB season and outdoor activities take place almost all year.

Final Ligure has a fantastic landscape with slopes, cliffs and deep valleys that are popular with local leisure enthusiasts. There are many hundreds of kilometers of mountain bike routes and not least a myriad of active experiences.

We arrange both the development week with our local mountain guide Louise Paulin who is also the Enduro World Series (EWS) racer and champion world champion 2019 – but also a mountain bike holiday for the whole family.
